Choosing the Right Integration Platform
Tuesday, Jan 08, 2019
This blog sheds some light on key decision-making criteria. It's not an all-inclusive pool of directions. There are many other factors that can impact the decision. Yet, here we want to focus on the main points you need take care of when getting to the point of choosing the right integration platform for the customer and organization.
Let's first layout the three options we currently have. They are: Cloud Native Solutions, On-Premises Solutions and Hybrid Solutions.
Let's examine every option as follows:
Cloud Native Solutions
These solutions leverage Azure services only for the entire solution.
When to resort to this option?
- If all or most of customer assets are already in the cloud, for instance, SaaS
- If the customer has cloud-based B2B integrations
- The pricing model and elasticity of the platform could be very appealing to many customers
- The customer organization's strategy is to leverage the cloud from day one
- The customer has a brand-new IT landscape
On-Premises Solutions
These solutions leverage the robust BizTalk platform capabilities in the customer's data center.
When to resort to this option?
- If all or most of customer assets are already on-premises, for instance, LOB or legacy systems
- The BizTalk Server is already existing in the customer IT landscape
- It could be very expensive or technically difficult to re-factor existing systems to the cloud
- Integrations are mainly internal within the organization's internal network
- The cloud approach is not an option for the customer due to, for example, having mission critical systems or highly sensitive data
Hybrid Solutions
These solutions extend the reach of on-premises platforms/systems into the cloud to leverage the new capabilities and features provided by Azure workloads.
When to resort to this option?
- If the customer assets, or systems to be integrated, extend across the cloud and on-premises
- The BizTalk Server may already be existing in the customer IT landscape
- There are some existing legacy systems that can't be migrated to the cloud
- The pricing model and elasticity of the platform could be very appealing to many customers
- The customer organization's strategy is to eventually move to the cloud in the future.
- This could be the first of many stages until reaching a cloud-native solution, or at least move most of the assets to the cloud
Listening to Customers
These few tips act as main guidelines that point you to the right direction when listening to customers needs and understanding their organization's integration vision. Keep them in mind!
